Curriculum in Indonesia
In every country the curriculum is very important, the curriculum is one of the directions and goals in education that is regulated by the curriculum so that it can design, implement, and evaluate teacher learning which will become a benchmark in its education unit. The curriculum is a set of subjects and educational programs provided by an educational institution that will be given to students. According to Ralph Tyler (1949), the curriculum has goals, content, methods, and evaluation. A good curriculum is a curriculum that fits the times because every era will experience developments in technology and knowledge, therefore curriculum changes are very important. Nowadays science and information technology are still developing and learning will be boring without change.
With
changes in every era, it will get better because it suits the needs
of education in Indonesia. Muhammedi (2016) stated history records that there
have been eleven curriculum changes after Indonesian independence, starting
from the 1947 lesson plan curriculum, then becoming the 1952 decomposed lesson
plan curriculum, the 1964 education plan curriculum, the 1968 curriculum, the
1975 curriculum with its lesson unit terms, the 1984 curriculum with the
concept of CBSA, the 1994 curriculum, the KBK curriculum in 2004, the KTSP
curriculum, the 2013 curriculum, and the latest Merdeka Curriculum development must be
based on general principles.
The
curriculum must have clear principles and a strong foundation, the curriculum
must always be developed and refined to keep pace with the development of
science and technology. With the existence of sophisticated technology, the
language of English learning needs to change. English is
the main language used as a means
of communication throughout the world. English is very
important to learn in Indonesia, initially English only learned
about grammar and how to remember vocabulary, but nowadays with the
development of technology and broad knowledge, learning English will be
used more easly and effectively.
In learning English, teachers must also follow the curriculum provided by the government according to their needs. Some teachers or lecturers like curriculum changes because they can use media that is by the latest technology, but some teachers or lecturers don't like curriculum changes because lack of knowledge in using current technology. The best way to respond to change is to be proactive in the flow of change.
